The most romantic holiday of the year will soon be here: Valentine’s Day. Messages of love, friendship, and admiration will be exchanged. Flowers, candy and other special gifts will be enjoyed and marriage proposals will be made. It will be just like a fairy tale for some of us. Speaking of fairy tales …
Remember Cinderella? She lived with her cruel stepmother and two wicked step sisters. She spent all of her time cleaning the cottage, sewing her stepsisters’ beautiful gowns, and cooking their massive meals. This well-loved story has all the elements of a good romantic fairy tale: an enchanted setting, good and evil characters that sometimes take on unusual forms, a problem that is resolved in the end, and the moral lessons we love: good wins over evil, you get what you give, and don’t miss curfew or you’ll be sorry. And, of course, the perfect ending: “happily ever after” with a handsome prince.
This timeless tale overlooked one little problem: those woodland cottages were small. They had very little closet space and no extra storage space. What did Cinderella and the mean girls do with their overflow? Cinderella was forced to sew their gowns, so she needed a place to store all of that extra fabric, those huge patterns, and her sewing accessories? Where did they store those billowing dresses, the extra furniture, and that harvest of pumpkins from the garden? Not to mention those cages for the mice and rats that were needed by the Fairy Godmother.
The Fairy Godmother had her own storage issues. Magic can’t solve every problem. Please don’t tell me that she had only one magic wand. When those wands lost their powers, she needed replacements, right?? She probably ordered in bulk and needed space for wand storage. And what about the golden coach? That vehicle had to have protection from the elements and those crazy woodland animals. She needed indoor parking and lots of it because she undoubtedly had extra coaches in different colors (some princesses prefer silver).
Now you know that even fairy tale characters had everyday problems that needed everyday solutions. They needed a convenient, secure, budget-friendly storage space for their possessions. Was there someone in fairy tale land who had such a place?
The handsome prince to the rescue. He owned the best storage property in the land. It was clean, convenient, affordable, and guarded by state-of-the-art fire-breathing dragons. How else do you think he could afford that fabulous castle and those extravagant parties?
He was a clever prince who made a deal with the Fairy Godmother. She provided the security by turning horned lizards into fierce, fire-breathing dragons for 50% off rent during every full-moon month. When he was short on employees, the Prince again called on the Fairy Godmother to turn some mice into managers. Win-win.
The local woodsman (Red Riding Hood’s buddy) was able to build some crates and shelving so that Cinderella and her evil stepsisters had plenty of organization for their belongings. He also helped the Prince with any updates needed on his property.
